The tide is turning on the public perception of bringing renewable energy projects to communities, and we're here to help push this perception over the edge!
Wind and Sky Apiaries understands that most renewable energy projects get caught up in the development phase with the communities they’re trying to establish their projects in. Having seen the incredible benefits of bringing renewable energy companies to a local town, Wind and Sky Apiaries seeks to assist in building public relations at a beekeeping level, philanthropic level, and educational level—all of which are sure to help make the case that renewable energy projects are great for a community.
Beekeeping is the central focus of what Wind and Sky Apiaries does at the national level. We specialize in bringing local beekeepers to renewable energy projects, where the relationship between the beekeeper and the project is mutually beneficial—not only to the individuals involved but to beekeeping as a whole. When a project is set to launch, Wind and Sky Apiaries taps into our nationwide network of beekeepers, finding a suitable professional to maintain a contract at a given site. All contracts are negotiated and maintained through Wind and Sky Apiaries, thus alleviating much of the lift for the renewable energy company. Our mission in this regard is to work through any hurdles that may arise and ensure that the local beekeepers are maintaining their bees in a safe and healthy way.
When bringing a beekeeper on board, the idea is that the beekeeper will be able to profit from the rental of the hives as well as the honey produced from these fields. There are a few stipulations in these contracts that allow Wind and Sky Apiaries to increase accountability between the beekeeper, the bees, and Wind and Sky Apiaries. When a beekeeper enters into these contracts, Wind and Sky Apiaries look to maintain that same beekeeper at the same site so relations can grow in the local area.
To further the community impact, Wind and Sky Apiaries is looking to set up a donation system where local beekeepers can donate to organizations such as fire and police departments, food banks, and other shelters in the vicinity. These donations benefit not only the community but also help draw attention to the positive effects of bringing renewable energy companies to local communities.
Wind and Sky Apiaries is a veteran-owned business, and therefore the health and well-being of veterans is of the utmost importance to the company. When looking for ways to serve others, Wind and Sky Apiaries founder, Travis Snyder, settled upon the idea of lowering the barriers to entry into beekeeping for those who are interested. Heroes and Hives is an organization designed for veterans and first responders to enter into beekeeping. After completing a six-week course, participants take a final assessment, and upon passing, they receive, at no cost to them, a fully stocked beehive worth around $400. Furthermore, as Heroes and Hives grow, so will the network of people who have completed the course. The goal of Heroes and Hives is to create a network of mentors and mentees, where past participants serve as mentors for current participants. Wind and Sky Apiaries helps set up participants who might not have what they consider suitable land to maintain a beehive on renewable energy sites.
Among its leadership, Wind and Sky Apiaries has award-winning educators. It is important for Wind and Sky Apiaries, as a company, to support the education of pollinators in local communities. As part of the renewable energy stand-up program, Wind and Sky Apiaries will share with local schools its K-12 curriculum, designed for all ages, to learn about pollinators, pollinator habitats, and the conservation efforts that renewable energy companies are spearheading in the legacy of the honeybee.
